Christmas Morning

All is peaceful. I just watched the sun come up here in New England. It is cold outside, but it is as it should be for this time of the year. While I am having my first cup of Earl Gray for the day, I feel it is the perfect time to sit and send my Red Hat friend good wishes. I wish you  and your family peace and harmony for the day and the up and coming year.
With much admiration, Lady Estelle

Missing Playing With My Friends

I have not have anytime to spend with my Red Hat Friends. I get the Monthly Schedule of events, but I have so much other things on my plate.
The last function I attended was in October of 2010. We were invited to the Undertaker's Ball in Newport. It was quit an adventure. I was a Halloween costume party. I was cleverly dressed as the bride of Transylvania and Queen Mary was a  20's Flapper..
While is was there, I got to meet the Count of Transylvania. I found him to be quit charming!

Funnel Cakes

Funnel cake or funnelcake is a regional novelty food popular in the U.S. at carnivals, fairs, sporting events, and seaside resorts.

Country cookies know this goodie from back when, and they know it's best to get 'em while they're hot!
Ingredients:
  • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Confectioners' sugar for sprinkling
In a large bowl combine the four, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla. Add to the dry ingredients and stir just until blended.
Heat 1 inch of oil in a frying pan. Hold your finger over the bottom of a funnel and pour in 1/2 cup of the batter. Holding the funnel over the hot oil, drizzle the batter into the oil.. Cook until golden brown, turn and cook the other side. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
Makes 5-6 servings

First day of my Red Hat Vacation.

On Tuesday, my first day of my vacation, I was invited to lunch with my Red Hat friends. We traveled to Galilee to enjoy lunch at Champlin's.
You can't go wrong with Champlin's - great views of the boats coming and going through the Breachway.

If you love quiet days by the ocean, the village of Galilee on Point Judith is the place for you. Located in the town of Narragansett in Rhode Island's South County, Galilee is known for fishing, boating, beaches and, of course, seafood restaurants.

History

Fishing boat in the Galilee breachway The history of Galilee and Point Judith has always been tied to the Point Judith Pond and the Breachway that joins it to the sea. In the eighteenth century, the area around Point Judith Pond was inhabited primarily by farmers who used the Breachway to transport crops to markets in Providence, Newport, Boston and New London. In the nineteenth century, a thriving fishing industry also developed. Area farmers often supplemented their income by fishing for bass and alewife, or digging oysters.

After lunch we enjoyed each others company on the beach.
Named for the legendary Rhode Island radio personality, Salty Brine State Beach is a short stretch of sand adjacent to the breachway in Galilee. Formally known as the Galilee State Beach, Salty Brine has quiet waters that are great for kids. It is also a wonderful spot to watch the ships coming and going through the Breachway.

What an amazing afternoon. But before we started our trip home, we had to stop for an ice cream to cool us off from the day in the sun!

The Rhody Red Hats, all the way from Warwick RI!  Queen Mary and her many hats, left she has a butterfly... a little larger than you'd find in a garden... and below in a large brimmed sun hat. Her beautiful companion with the grand Victorian hat was charming lady Estelle of Providence.
